NEH Digital Humanities Award

In April 2009, the Center for the Study of Pacific War Memories was privileged to receive an award of $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Digital Humanities Start-up grant program. The award was made to support the development of a multilingual user-generated archive and collaborative research website called Eternal Flames: Living Memories of the Asia Pacific War. Thanks to the generous support of the NEH, CSPWM has been able to hire two talented researchers, Amanda Shuman, a Ph.D. candidate in modern Chinese history at UC Santa Cruz, and Suzana Djurcilov, a Ph.D. in computer graphics from the School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. Together, Amanda and Suzana are bringing their strong backgrounds in digital humanities and computer science to addressing the ambitious goals of the website.
